
1. Department of Energy Systems – University of Thessaly
The Department of Energy Systems is committed to ensuring and continuously enhancing the quality of its educational, research, and administrative activities, in alignment with the mission and strategic objectives of the University of Thessaly. The Quality Policy of the academic unit is fully aligned with the Quality Policy of the Institution and is implemented within the framework of the certified Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS), in accordance with the principles and guidelines of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE).
2. Objectives of the Quality Policy
The primary objective of the Department’s Quality Policy is to provide high-quality undergraduate education in the scientific field of energy systems, based on clearly defined learning outcomes, scientific rigor, and societal relevance. In particular, the Quality Policy aims to:
- continuously enhance the Undergraduate Study Programme (USP),
- ensure the quality and effectiveness of teaching,
- strengthen the link between education, contemporary scientific knowledge, and research,
- promote transparency, documentation, and accountability in academic processes,
- improve the overall student experience and the quality of support services.
3. Quality of the Educational Process
The Undergraduate Study Programme of the Department is designed, implemented, and evaluated on the basis of clearly defined learning outcomes, aligned with the European and National Qualifications Frameworks for Higher Education. The quality of teaching is ensured through:
- alignment between learning outcomes, teaching activities, and assessment methods,
- the use of appropriate and modern pedagogical approaches,
- transparency in student assessment criteria,
- regular evaluation of courses and instructors by students.
4. Research Activity and Its Integration into Teaching
The Department promotes the scientific and research activity of its academic staff and encourages the integration of research into teaching, through the incorporation of contemporary research results into course content and the supervision of undergraduate theses with scientific and applied orientation.
5. Administrative Support and Transparency
The Quality Policy includes the continuous improvement of administrative processes supporting the operation of the Undergraduate Study Programme. Emphasis is placed on documentation, digital data management, clear allocation of responsibilities, and transparency in decision-making, in cooperation with the relevant services of the University.
6. Equality, Inclusion, and Academic Ethics
The Department fully adopts the principles of equality, non-discrimination, and respect for diversity, as reflected in the Statutes and Regulations of the University of Thessaly. Any form of discrimination or harassment is not tolerated, and a safe, inclusive, and ethically sound academic environment for learning and work is ensured.
7. Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement Mechanisms
The implementation of the Quality Policy is supported by:
- the operation of the Department’s Internal Evaluation Group (OMEA),
- the systematic collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data (student evaluations, performance indicators, annual reports),
- cooperation with the University’s Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP),
- the annual internal evaluation and review of the Undergraduate Study Programme.
The outcomes of evaluations are utilized for the formulation of targeted improvement actions, alignment with quality objectives, and the continuous enhancement of the Study Programme.
8. Relationship with the Labour Market
The Quality Policy takes into account developments in the energy sector and the needs of the labour market. Although the Undergraduate Study Programme does not include a formally established internship scheme, the Department encourages students to seek relevant professional experience and skills development opportunities on their own initiative, within the broader academic and professional ecosystem.
