It is with great pleasure that we announce that the research paper titled:

“An Interpretable Fuzzy Cognitive Map Model Optimized via Particle Swarm for Parathyroid Lesion Classification”
by A. Feleki, P. Zampakis, M. Tsimara, I. Akrida, E. Anesidis, E. Papageorgiou, N. Papandrianos, and C. Kalogeropoulou,

was awarded the 1st Prize for Best Poster Presentation among 174 scientific poster presentations at the 20th Balkan Congress of Radiology (BCR 2025), held in Heraklion, Crete, on October 9–11, 2025.

The work was recognized for its innovative application of Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning in medical imaging, as well as for the development of an interpretable Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCM) model optimized through Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), aiming at accurate and transparent classification of parathyroid gland lesions. It is worth noting that Ms. A. Feleki is a PhD candidate at the Department of Energy Systems, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Nikolaos Papandrianos. This distinction highlights the interdisciplinary collaboration and the strong presence of the Department of Energy Systems in bridging Artificial Intelligence and Medical Imaging.

Congratulations to the entire research team on this outstanding achievement!
